The ginger apprentice perked up a little when he was told he had not done wrong, he was glad of that fact. He flicked his fluffy ginger tail happily as he watched his mentor catch the fish, with his eyes closed! ’Wooow!’ he whispered apparently taken a back at the site. He had never seen or known anyone do that before, ’Can I learn to do that!?’ he asked hopefully, although he knew it would take much practice and that an apprentice as small as him had a long way to go.
Once again his thoughts automatically lingered towards his father, I wonder if he could do that? he thought to himself and vowed to ask his mother. He needed to know so much about his father, he was even tempted to ask Nightstar, but he knew now was not the right time. Maybe when we are done here? On the journey back? he asked himself a little worried on what the reaction might be.

As the word ‘STRIKE’ was spoken loudly beside him he snapped out of his thoughts, he wasn’t sure what to do as he hadn’t been listening, but he hoped he just meant strike at a fish, what else is there to do here? he asked himself as he awaited a fish to come by.
When a large silver shape bobbed along close to the ginger apprentice he swiped at it with his paw, it came out of the water a little way before falling back in with a splash making both of the cats wet. Looking embarrassed he turned to Nightstar, his blue eyes looking worried. Will he know I wasn’t listening… he thought to himself guilty.

Sandpaw nodded and was relieved that Nightstar hadn’t noticed his loss of concentration, he was finding it hard to concentrate. He kept having visions of what his father looks like, his mother had tried explaining him to him but he longed to see him for himself, and he mother had promised he would when he was apprenticed. Shaking the thoughts away once again he looked into the depths of the stream. As a silver shape swam by once again he swiped at it and hooked it on a claw, it wriggled frantically trying to escape until he threw it onto the ground where it wriggled until he pounced on it and killed it with his sharp claws.
Turning to his mentor he had a smile on his face. ’Was that ok?’ he asked hoping it was and they were done here so he could ask about going to see his father. Right now he didn’t care if the leader got angry and told him he couldn’t he just wanted to find his father. His paws were itching with anticipation and he couldn’t control his feelings.

Sandpaw smiled equally as much at the leaders praise, his blue eyes glistened with pride. ’Do you mean that?’ he asked excitedly before he could stop himself. Once again his mind went to his father. Would he be proud of me? he asked himself hoping that the answer was yes. I need to tell him the news right away! he thought, his paws were kneading the ground as he was agitated to get moving to find his father. Then for the first time he realised he didn’t know where he would find him, his smile dropped and his stopped glistening, instead they appeared more watery as he fought back tears, he should be happy now not sad.

"I mean that, now, actually, i'll let you decide, what would you like to do?" But he read Sandpaw like a book "But not see if Windfire is about." He murmured.

The ginger apprentices face shone at the chance to tell Nightstar what it was he wanted to do. But his happiness soon evaporated and his tail drooped at the leaders next words. With a deep loathing sigh he looked right into the leaders eyes with his own blue orbs. For the first time he resented his mentor, ’I don’t want to do anything else now…’ he grumbled clearly upset. If Nightstar wouldn’t allow him to see his father he would have to find his own way of doing it, maybe my mother will take me to find him… he wondered to himself.
He looked at the floor, his blue eyes were beginning to cloud with sorrow and he didn’t want to give in to the tears that he knew were coming. Not wanting to cry infront of his mentor he turned his back to him and began to pad slowly and silently back the way they had come. He was going to take a walk around the borders in the hope of spotting Windfire before he reached the camp. He had never met his father, but he was sure that he would be able to recognise him when he did, his mother said they shared the same eyes.

((He had an argument with the leader and many warriors over feeding some loners in a harsh leaf bare and fed them anyway so he was called a traitor and is not welcome anymore.))
Pricking his ears as he walked slowly away he stopped and listened, he realised he had forgotten the fish they had caught which meant he had to wander back to Nightstar. Looking him straight in the eyes with his own blue eyes he did not say a word but his gaze said many things; most of them bitter and ones that should not be said to there leader. Picking up the fish he blinked away the tears and began to pad back to the camp. It looked like he would have no chance to scale the borders just yet, after all Nightstar would be heading back to camp now surely and he would know that Sandpaw hadn’t gone straight back if he took a detour.
His bushy ginger tail trailed in the damp grass as he padded along, he didn’t care that he would be getting muddy, he just wanted to see his father. That was his one dream for now, his mother promised he would be able to meet him and so far it had not happened. He had been told the story of his father and he couldn’t understand the seriousness of it, he was only trying to help, nothing bad.
